Burny - MC3V Control Unit

A Southern Florida Sign Shop had purchased a used Vytek Rebel router table with a NEE MC3V controller and Casmate software. Vytek had used several variants of NEE motion controllers for many years on their industrial router tables.

The customer started correctly by trying to improve the old machine by replacing several worn mechanical drive components and researching improvements in the controls. The high torque stepper motors and wiring were working and reliable so the decision was made to keep them in place. Not knowing where this new equipment would take their business, they wanted the option of using Servo motors in the future.

This led them to the AMC B motion controller using a Remote Graphics Handpad and external stepper drive amplifiers. In the future they when they switch to servos they would only need to swap 1 board in the controller and swap to Servo amplifiers in trade for the Stepper amplifiers. The controller and operator interface would remain the same.

Initial tests on a 2.5D relief engraved "House Number" sign brought the MC3V time of 6:30 down to 3:13 with the AMC B motion controller. (50% improvement)

Benefits of the upgrade

Increased throughput from...

    • micro-stepping enabling faster acceleration / deceleration

    • advanced "Look ahead" optimizing feed-rate, accel, and decel through arcs and angles

    • micro pulse wheel for precise tool length settings

    • maximum feed-rate on move commands

    • true arc movement through G-code outputs from CAS software

  • easy and cost effective servo upgrade path

  • less scrap and better utilisation of scrap materials

    • from part verification through validate and graphic plot on handpad

    • precise backup / skip / and search functions

    • spindle RPM controlled from part program G-code and not operator (overrides are present)
