Torch Height Control System Improves Cut Quality and Maximizes Overall Productivity.
Cleveland, Oh... The new LEVITATOR® System, from the Burny Group of Cleveland Motion Controls, Inc., makes it easy for operators to maintain an optimum distance between a steel plate and a flame cutting torch--oxyfuel or plasma. The System includes a LEVITATOR® Torch Height Control Sensor to consistently monitor the optimum distance between the torch tip and plate and a motorized Torch Lifter to automatically maintain that distance. It is available with new machinery or to retrofit existing torches.
The new LEVITATOR® System offers users numerous benefits. By maintaining a set working distance, it results in consistent higher quality cuts, provides faster and more reliable piercing cycles, enables the machine to cut at faster speeds, and reduces scrap. It will also improve productivity by freeing the machine operator to perform other tasks while the torches are left unattended.
The LEVITATOR® Torch Height Control Sensor maintains an optimum distance between the torch tip and the steel plate through non-contact capacitive measurement. It is available in two models--with a tristate relay output or with a pwm servo output. Depending on the model, the sensor is accurate up to +/-.019 inches (.5mm) with a normal working distance of.200-.800 in. (5-20mm)--regardless of plate irregularities or severe duty.
The LEVITATOR® Torch Lifter is designed for ruggedness, durability and severe duty. The mechanism consists of a motorized torch holder, a manual torch holder, a control cable and miscellaneous torch holder hardware. The unit provides a stroke of 6 inches, a speed of 60 inches per minute and has a direct motor drive. The Torch Lifter operates automatically through commands from the sensor or it can be operated manually.
